MaKey MaKey

What? What does MaKey MaKey even mean? The Victor crew wanted to find out more about this. Here is what we found out:

With a small circuit board and some alligator clips, you can turn almost anything into a touch pad or joystick. The kit includes the MaKey MaKey circuit board, alligator clips, and USB cable. You can make anything into a keyboard key (this Make Key).

Here’s how it works:
Hook the board to a computer via the USB cable. Clip two objects to the board. You and a banana for example. When you touch the banana, you make a connection and MaKey MaKey sends the computer a keyboard message.

MaKey MaKey classic will run you $49.95 and is rated age 8 to infinity. MaKey MaKey Go is in preorder for $24.95. This is the size of a thumb drive and rated ages 6 to infinity. It includes a USB invention stick, case with magnet, one alligator clip, keyring, and instructions.

Ever played Mario on Play-Doh or Piano on Bananas? Alligator clip the Internet to Your World.

Do you really only need one charger?

Here is a new charger out called Zolt, that is more compact and can charge up to 3 devices at a time. This gadget is about the size of a pill bottle. It plugs into an outlet, has a 6-foot cord that can rotate in the outlet. It has three USB ports. The cord wraps neatly around itself when not in use.

If you go to their site, you can check all your devices before purchases to see if it is compatible with them.

The price for this convenience? $99.99. It will be available starting November 17, 2015. Something to add to your Christmas list.

Hello Lumio!

Sometimes you find some cool gadgets when you least expect it. This one was recently spied by Jody Victor’s crew on Shark Tank. This gadget even started a bidding war between most of the sharks.

So what is it? It is called Lumio Book Lamp. It looks like a book or journal. When you open it (it can go to 360°), it lights up. You can rest it like an open book flat on a surface or standing up. The end covers are also magnetic so you can stick them to metal cabinets, refrigerator or anywhere you have metal.

With the accessories you can clip it when you open to full extent. There are also pegs to stand it up. Presently they are being sold at several art museums around the country and online. The rechargeable batteries are charged via USB.

It currently comes in two size. The mini is ready for presale for $100.00 right now with 3 color options: orange/black; red/gray; yellow/navy blue. The regular price is $125.00. It measures 3.75″ W x 5.5″ H x .875″ thick and weighs about 0.75 lbs. The ambient light for the mini will continue for up to 10 hours of continuous use.

The full-size Lumio Book Lamp comes in dark walnut or blonde maple and sells for $190.00. It is 6.5″ W x 8.5″ H x 1.25″ thick and weighs about 1.5 lbs. The ambient light will continue for up to 8 hours of continuous use.

The Coolest!

You’ve heard of coolers. You probably even have one or two in your basement or garage. They all look basically same. Plain. Some are hinged. Some have wheels. Coolers have just only done one thing – let you put in ice or ice packs and keep items cold. Not anymore. Jody‘s crew found out that now you can get the Coolest!

Here are some of the features:
It comes in 6 colors
Holds 60 quarts
Has an 18v battery powered rechargeable built-in ice crushing blender
Waterproof Bluetooth speaker
USB charger
LED lid lights
Gear tie-downs
Cooler Divider/Cutting board
Extra wide rolling tires
Integrated storage for your plates and knife
Built-in bottle opener

See it explained in their video.

New Cat Gadget

If you have a cat you would like to keep occupied, then the new Egg gadget is just what you are looking for. Currently a kickstarter project, Egg says it is not a toy but a cat companion. The Egg is shaped like an egg but inside there is an offset motor, rechargeable batteries (through your USB phone charging cord), and you can configure different modes on your computer interface.

The Egg will move back and forth (even over carpet), shake, make sounds, sense obstacles and reverse direction, sense interactions with your cat or kitten and try to excape if your kitten/cat grabs it. There is still time to order yours. Funding period ends January 25, 2014.
